In woodsball it is not about having the best gun that shoots 30 balls per second. It’s about strategy and tactics. That is what makes a great player. But having a team that cooperates is even more important as most tactics of this sport require partners to effectively make the tactics work.
First lets run threw the most common tactics as an individual player.
-When you’re in a bunker getting shot at, never put your head out to look in the same spot twice in a row.
-When trying to look over a bunker take quick peaks to avoid being seen and getting shot in the mask.
-GET ON THE GROUND. In woodsball, players need to crawl more. Nobody does it. It works great, try it!
-Pay attention to your feet, arms, gun, and the top of your head. Make sure they are not sticking out. Me myself have picked off many players by shooting their gun barrels. I would say it is the most common mistake that players do.
-If a player keeps shooting at your try to fall back to better cover without getting
Shot.
-As soon as you spot an other player on the field create advantage for yourself. Try to get an angle on the other player. Don’t just shoot at each other for 5 minutes.
-When you’re facing someone in a bunker and there is a lot more cover on your side. Start shooting at the person in the bunker until he gets down to cover himself. Then keep pounding the bunker with paintballs and move to a different place. Once you get to the other place stop shooting. The other player will be looking for u. Now stay hidden and when the time is right, pick him off with a shot. This tactic really helps.
There are also several team tactics. But your team need a strong leader that can tell you what you need to do to win the game.
-Make sure you always have your team to spread out. Have a point man and wingman. So if you run in to an ambush it is only the point man that will get shot at. Therefore the wingmen’s can get angles on the players that are shooting at your point man.
-When you set up an ambush most of the player shoot way to early and they get shoot by the wingman. The right time to shoot during an ambush is when the opposite team as left your position. Most good ambush snipers should know this.
-If you have a sniper on your paintball team set up a ghost flanker when you are in fight with an other team.
Now I will mention 2 different plays that are very useful to use with your team.
1. Strong Side Attack - Say you have 6 players on your team. To create this play you need to send 2 of your players on one side of the field and the 4 other players on the other side. Never have a person in the middle of the field. Use the 4-player side to dig in to the opposite team and get the 2 player group to hang back and just get angles on players. This will create confusion on the other team therefore they will be eliminated.
2. The Lazy D – This play works little like the strong side except your on defence to even up the numbers or take out a little bit of player on the other team to get an advantage. Say you have 10 people on you team. Get 3 of them to stay at your base. The 7 other players get them on the side of the field and make them set up an ambush. The opposite team will be concentrated on the 3 players at the base. When the time is right get your 7 players and pick off the opposite team while their shooting at you other 3 players at your base.
